Rotherhithe, Sensei Tony Evangelou, Kikusui Kai Aikido, British Aikido Association by Chris Cousins
Written by DōjōchōI visited Rotherhithe Dojo, and having practised here many times before, I hoped to have a pretty good idea was what I was in for. Firstly, Sensei Tony Evangelou has an immediate presence, very likable, and it is evident he enjoys his aikido. This is certainly shown via by the students, in their attitudes too. Also I know Sensei Tony runs a children's class too, where they seem to have a lot of fun. (It was at such a class when I suffered my worst injury in Aikido, not falling awkwardly from a Kotegaeshi flip, or badly avoiding a jo attack, but when being chased by a boy who was 'it', during Bulldog, and falling off the mat and twisting my ankle.)
Practicing techniques, there is a noticeable difference without the Ki emphasis found outside Tomiki Aikido. I cannot presume to be in a position to say one style is better than another, but I did find it hard to adjust.
We are all preparing for our bi-yearly club grading in May and we have an open hour for grading practice on Mondays from 7:30 to 8:30.
This is not a class but more training session in which you turn up and have run through what you need with a partner.
I will there to help out and give advice but not to teach for the whole hour.
If your interested then let the other students know and turn with a partner or take a chance on seeing who else is on the mat.
Remember the grading is only 2 weeks away so try to make it along to as many classes as you need.

Sunday morning Aikido
There is nothing better than Sunday morning Aikido...
Of all the classes that we run throughout the week Sunday mornings is my faviorite class, it sets me up for the day and the week ahead.
It's often the class where I get to try out new ideas and things that I want to teach in the week ahead.
Why not come along ...
